Very pretty and charming chapel, located in the middle of the street, you have to pay attention to see the entrance because if not, you will pass by...once inside you don't expect how big it is in relation to its entrance.

Cute little church in the middle of Venice’s The pink hue of the exterior definitely catches your eye. While the outside is loud in its visual, the inside is much more humble in the best way possible. Good for a quick prayer and even lively during a mass or sermon. I recommend at least passing by to take a quick peak and say your little prayer if you are into that. If not, at least enjoy the painted ceilings.

The short, compact church space conveys intimacy and security. A wonderful place to pause while exploring this magical city. A great late work by Bellini can be found behind the right side entrance in a chapel. The painter constructed the picture in such a way that the viewer has the impression that the landscape and the people belong to the church interior.

The first church was built around 1080, but was ruined by a fire in 1475, then demolished in 1488 and rebuilt starting from 1493-1494. The reconstruction lasted from 1493 until 1525 by the architect Mauro Codussi, who however died in 1504 without seeing his work completed, continued and completed by his son Domenico. Inside, the church has a Greek cross plan with the dome set on four large arches supported by pillars. Thanks to the windows placed at the base of the dome, the church is very bright. There are several important works by artists who worked in Venice between the end of the 1400s and the beginning of the 1500s. The bas-relief "The Coronation of the Virgin" by Tullio Lombardo is one of these. Among the pictorial works there are several altarpieces dedicated to San Girolamo, San Cristoforo and Sant'Agostino by Giovanni Bellini on the right side. While on the main altar the altarpiece with Saint John Chrysostom and Saints John the Baptist, Liberale, Mary Magdalene, Agnes, Catherine by Sebastiano del Piombo, made between 1509 and 1511. On the jamb of the right door of the church was carved on stone d'Istria, the attack that this building suffered during the Second World War and the disfigurement caused by an Austrian bomb on February 26, 1915.
